After the VP debate, I was stuck under two babies and couldn’t get up before CBS did it’s spin room coverage and fake analytics. During their focus group of 6 undecideds, I nearly fucking lost it when one said “I like that Vance said he’s pro-family”.

This shit repeated on my stream I was watching several times and I inevitably woke up my 8mo having to get to the computer before every last drop of my sanity was gone.

  • Glad to be in California, even if my vote isn’t going to matter thanks to electorial college. I still have to vote on propositions and other down ballet stuff, but it’s a simple walk to a drop box. We get quick confirmation and votes remain sealed until counted to prevent tampering, so it’s pretty safe to mail it or drop it off. Also still counts if it’s postmarked on time, although I do late that it’ll be a week before we really know results.

That said, if you can go early voting in person, it’s probably more reliable in many other states with less protections. I heard USPS may be unreliable and if you can’t get confirmation via email or text, it’s hard to know if it’s received.

  • Oh for sure, but let’s say I’m running the model locally using my GPU instead of, say, using it to play a game using that GPU. It’s all technically wasteful, but by that standard everything we use our computers for are wasteful. I’m not even sure if running it locally counts for usage statistics, either, although I suppose download counts could.

Granted, I don’t like the wasteful use of AI models (especially unsolicited bullshit from copilot) and I certainly don’t like the use of stolen material for corporate gain, but I’ve never been against individuals using pirated software, music, video, etc, for personal usage even before AI.

Don’t have an argument against it normalizing the behavior, though. I’d like to believe there’s an ethical way to adopt new technology without screwing some people over, but that’s probably not possible under capitalism.
